A Light in the Sky

By Melissa Osborne

As a flickering light, I now slip away
Forgive me, I know that you told me to stay
But know that I'll listen, know that I'll hear
And if fate will have it,
I'll always be near.
And if fate will have it,
I'll always be near.

The warmth of your smile is leading me on
Yet I've nothing to give you but love and a song.
Just know that my struggle's already been won
And if fate will have it,
I'll never be gone.
And if fate will have it,
I'll never be gone.

No words beneath these skies of blue
Could ever express my gratitude to you
For all of our years, for all of our time
I'm still so elated to know you were mine

So off I'm now heading, to heaven I'm bound
But if I could choose, then I'd stick around.
Yes, if you would have it,
I would stick around.

As I said on the sketch for this piece, Flogging Molly's "If I Ever Leave This World Alive" inspired this ballad. My friends said this was very melancholy, and one of them even thought the narrator was going to commit suicide. Rest assured that this is not the case. Also, the beat may seem odd since I had a tune for this in my head as I wrote it. It's written as a song, not as a poem. =3
